I Miss Glee

I miss Glee! If you have not already jumped on the Glee bandwagon, check out this song perfomed by the cast from the first half of the season. Glee will finally return in April.

Many writers create a timeline recording the activities and important information about the characters in their books. Major character milestones are recorded to help the writer remember important plot points.
Over the last week I made a spreadsheet and gave my ONE LIFE characters (even the minor characters) a unique birthday, death date, wedding date, day they bought their house, etc. I know the exact month/day/year sixteen years ago when one character immigrated to another country. Also, I have an exact month/day/year from twenty years ago when two characters were set up on a blind date. Each character's physical characteristics and country of citizenship are recorded. Is it strange I find this kind of work fun?
Other News: Vampire Diaries was A+ on Thursday (they did such a great job casting that show)! Check out the books by L. J. Smith, if you have a chance.

I'm SUCH a sappy romantic. This is all I could think while reading through a particularly romantic scene in ONE LIFE. Seriously, I think teenage girls are going to eat this stuff up because this scene is ridiculously endearing...but suppose I'm bias. ;-)

Here I sit with my chin in hand feeling particularly indecisive. What am I contemplating? Well I'm trying to decide whether or not to include a Preface with ONE LIFE. The preface would be a short informal letter written from the perspective of the main character (on a whim I wrote it at 1AM this morning).
For now, because I'm not sure if I believe in them, the preface is out. It should not be a surprise if I change my mind later.

Working hard on ONE LIFE this week. With the help of an early reader a few areas were identified areas that needed tweaking. I will spend the next week making many of the suggested changes.

Thanks for the song suggestion, Charlee! The Leona Lewis song Happy is very inspirational.

Excited About 2010

I am beyond thrilled to be almost finished (drum roll, please) another novel. 2009 was one of those years many people were thankful to leave in the past; however, I would not trade a moment. I learned more in the past year than most of the other years in my life. I can feel it in my bones...there is a lot to look forward to in the future.

Why am I so happy? 2009 was a year when I moved several steps closer to achieving my dreams. 2009 is when I saw several seemingly impossible things happen. I have nothing to stop me from believing 2010 and then 2011 will be spectacular.

ONE LIFE's estimated final word count is: 83,000.
Main Character: Teddy Owens a.k.a Theodora Owens
Blog readers can expect a short synopsis to be posted in the coming weeks.

"Just living is not enough. One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower." ~Hans Christian Anderson

My Cousin Once Mentioned...

My cousin who is also a writer once mentioned she felt depressed while writing about her character's depression. Cousin, I can relate. In particularly emotional scenes with heartbreaking loss I feel terrible for my characters. My goal is for future readers to connect with my characters and feel compassion for them...if the writer doesn't connect with their characters neither will readers.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year 2010!

"All dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was in vanity, but the dreamers of the day are dangerous, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible." T. E. Lawrence
